About Us

Our philosophy of care stresses prevention and patient education. Our mission is to provide the best highly skilled integrative functional medical care possible in a warm and caring environment. We do this by combining board-certified medical care with functional medicine in an integrative fashion to focus completely on your whole health and your unique needs. Dr. Phyllis Gee founded Willowbend Health & Wellness upon the principle of patient empowerment and whole health, because you hold the keys to the many aspects that shape your health. We integrate findings from the most current clinical research to provide you with the most innovative, integrative testing and treatment options that combine the best of both Western and Eastern medicine.

Unlike conventional medical care, our team always focuses on root cause resolution – isolating the key imbalances that are responsible for the symptoms you’re experiencing right now in a holistic manner.  Guided by our team, you can get to the root cause of your dysfunction. We will seek to help you find solutions to address those root causes, not more treatments to cover up the symptoms.

An important part of the process is to help you uncover mediators in your environment to arrive at a “lifestyle prescription” that will assist you in your healing journey.  We leverage group structures for patient education, peer-to-peer support, and accountability – with both your care team and your fellow patients rooting for your success. You will get compassion, honesty, and respect with the support and caring that are so essential to helping you have a lifetime of good health.

Our Practitioners

Phyllis J. Gee MD, FACOG

Dr. Phyllis Gee is a board-certified gynecologist who has practiced in the Dallas area since 1986 and  has provided a full range of progressive gynecologic care with a focus on women’s health and wellness, including advanced minimally invasive surgery.   She has been nationally recognized for her involvement in clinical research in women’s health.  Dr. Gee was the founder and medical director of the North Texas Uterine Fibroid Institute, established to treat uterine fibroids non-invasively.  As an avid and experienced researcher, Dr. Gee has conducted clinical research for numerous pharmaceutical and medical device companies with a primary focus on uterine fibroids and endometriosis and she has been actively involved in raising awareness and educating other practitioners about hereditary cancer syndromes with a special focus on hereditary breast, ovarian, uterine and colon cancer. She has a broad base of knowledge but has special interests in nutrition, weight management, female sexuality, menopause management, uterine fibroids,  endometriosis, and digestive disorders, all of which can be addressed with a functional medicine approach.

As founder and medical director of Willowbend Health & Wellness, a functional & integrative medical practice in Plano, Texas, she now provides integrative health services to men, women, and adolescents, utilizing functional medical principles to uncover root causes of disease and offering alternatives to conventional treatment options.  This is accomplished by utilizing comprehensive diagnostic and lab testing along with a thorough history and a focus on the patient’s whole health.

The philosophy of care at Willowbend Health & Wellness stresses prevention and patient education while combining herbal and botanical therapies and when necessary conventional medical care with functional medicine and other integrative modalities to facilitate the healing process.  This philosophy is rooted in a comprehensive approach that combines both physical, mental-emotional and lifestyle medicine.  As such, Dr. Gee has adopted her 10 Steps to Optimal Health as the foundation for her functional medicine practice, to teach patients that the fastest way to recovering their natural health and vitality is to return to a way of eating and living that more closely matches their genes and biology, while recognizing that…

”Your genes don’t determine who you are, but they determine who you have the potential to become.”

Dr. Gee earned her BS degree in nutrition from Cornell University.  She is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY.  She began her career serving in the National Health Service Corps in Harlem, NY as a member of the faculty of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, before relocating to Dallas and subsequently establishing her private practice.  Dr. Gee completed comprehensive functional medicine training while enrolled in the Kresser Institute Adapt Practitioner training program, which has provided her with a broad foundation upon which to continue learning about evidence-based functional medicine principles and practices.

Dr. Gee has been actively involved in several hospital, civic and community organizations.   She is married with one daughter and spends her free time volunteering and traveling.
